That montage of him wandering the world didn’t show shit about hope, and he was content to be a brooding fag for the rest of his days. He becomes the good guy… just because, innit?
Also doesn’t help that his very next movie has him keep his pessimist streak going by saying

to the same woman to which he said the S on his chest stands for hope.
