Sociopath Zonda is the most boring way of reading her. It's more interesting if she is legitimately empathetic and not faking it, and that empathy drives her towards her kill all humans to save all adepts plan. She feels the sob stories of the people around her much more viscerally than anyone else.
Both interpretations are valid, however. She's an ambiguous character. I think there's slightly more evidence towards Zonda's love being genuine, but weirdly expressed due to her fucked up childhood. The only time she gets emotional and drops the monotone is right before dying, and her last thoughts were about how she let down adeptkind and her brother.
