I think the whats canon thing is a sticking point because how do the events in extra modes happen along with the normal mode? But i do think everything you see in an extra mode can be taken as true to the world like meta knight could re-create nova to make a wish and star dream could summon galacta knight, even if in the next game meta knight meets galacta knight for the first time for the 3rd time and has no recollection of him.
