I played like 8 or so hours of Forgotten Land. And then I never picked it up again.
I had pretty high hopes going in. And ignoring Star Allies, I've been a decently huge fan of Kirby since pretty forever. Having been a really huge fan back in the day.

But I found what I played of Forgotten Land felt extremely basic and even easier than even most of the modern Kirby games. Only now in 3D.
And the Mouthful transformations felt very lackluster too. I had decently high hopes for them since I actually quite liked the robot in Robobot. But the Mouthful stuff from what I played really just felt like "Ok you've transformed, now do the thing! Yes -the- thing!" without much room for freedom or creativity.
And the ability upgrades felt kind of crazy too, because the game was already easier than most other Kirby games. And then the upgrades made it significantly easier than it already was.

Am I completely off base with my impression of the game? Should I return to the game?
I really might do it. I have a couple of weeks to play something before Silksong consumes me. But I really wasn't impressed with Forgotten Land.
Though even if I was to return to it. It's one more week until Star-Crossed world actually becomes available. But will Star-Crossed world even improve the game?
I miss the Dreamland trilogy.

This fact makes me laugh so hard. Kirby is genuinely a good lad with the one of the kindest hearts in the galaxy. Magolor, Susie, and even Taranza all still have ulterior motives, sometimes announcing them outright (I'm pretty sure Susie inherited her father's enterprise and continues his terraforming as the new president), yet none of them can seem to figure out why Kirby remains so fond of them. At least Marx and Dark Meta Knight were upfront about the fact that they only cared to align with their nemesis, even just once, to ensure that they have a world to take over in the future.

You bring up a good point. It does give rise to a comical conundrum where it should, hypothetically, be easier to get up to your misdeeds by having the trust of your enemy. The issue, however, is that said enemy is extremely clingy and loves to spend time with you whenever he can. Kirby wins by being a hopechad who believes in the power of love and forgiveness. Spooder does deserve some help, however. I hope that HAL touches on the next chapter of Floralia soon. Queen Sectonia is dead, Dark Meta Knight got BTFO, Taranza is still grieving, and the Floralians are without a ruler. Don't ask me for a source, but I am pretty sure that Kumazaki and other developers from HAL had to make a statement confirming that content introduced in side modes and spinoff games are canon. Maybe not all of it, but a good lot of it is fair game. Characters like Galacta Knight/Aeon Hero, and Dark Meta Knight's involvement with the plot of Triple Deluxe, are too important to write-off. Dededetour probably has the most credence for being canonical, given that the devs have written posts about it and reference its events in official artwork.

Actually, after skimming a few articles, I found out that Kumazaki had written about King D-Mind. Anyway, point is, and in my opinion, taking Kirby's narratives at face value and saying "this is happening" is a good philosophy to have. Not sure why there was always such a debate around these matters, anyway. Not saying that about you specifically, Anon, mind you. There are several different directions that HAL can take the plot in, and I would like to believe that they wish to explore as many of those threads as possible.

I'm not sure how I'd approach the angle of big bad besides maybe a cosmic weaponsmith who made Galaxia and other powerful weapons in the franchise or a new evil force that represents violence and conflict in a way that disgusts Meta Knight's own heroic drive to become stronger as a warrior. Plus not sure what element of the setting to flesh out or expand like past games have loved to do but the game would easily be fun in trying something different but familiar for the franchise by fully expanding the series combat features to its full potential.
