Party members in Ys is Falcon's gravest mistake

Because the party system in this really sucks. I don't care about Adol's shitty friends.

What's the consensus on this? I'm 5 hours in at the giant tree dungeon. I really miss the chonky prerendered 2d sprites of Napishtim/Felghana/Origins. Also I usually really like the Baccano/Trails artist, but the characters just aren't doing it for me here. Everything is too damn bright. I miss the old games looking like extremely high effort Comiket games.

Also, really not liking the party member system. I would have preferred an Adol with a more varied moveset. Does it get a lot better?
