Doing some research, I found that the 2012 show was actually doing well as far as ratings were concerned, and the toys were the only problem.
Hasbro could have had both a successful show and toy line if they had just kept the Bobble in Style toys around (which were the old molds but based on characters from the show), but their solution was to kill the show that people actually liked, and then tried rebooting again, and things just kept going downhill from there.

Toy sales were low, yes, but he show itself was doing perfectly fine as far as rating were concerned. Unfortunately Hasbro couldn't care less about ratings.
