no they just need a blockade, Taiwan is an island and the Mainland is their main business and trade partner, and China can encircle the island without contest as they showed several times.
China will never launch a full human invasion of Taiwan because it would cause too many deaths both for the PLA and in the Taiwanese population, which is not something the PRC wants as they do not want to be seen as killing their own countrymen.
