You were probably playing with Ray Tracing off. It makes the game look dark because RT = light comes in through the windows. Without it, interiors look like there's no windows.

Yes, I would miss raytracing. The Silent Hill 2 remake has it, and it's actually hard to see with raytracing off. The only reason to turn it off would be if someone has performance issues.
