I think it's less about the 50 CP and more about worries about imploding, like has happened to certain platoons already. The moment you drop below 5% some members may decide to dip, whether that's rational or not, and the platoon might start a death spiral.
Of course, if you're already below the 5% line the members are clearly comfortable enough with that already so nothing happens.
I see your point though, there's bigger fish to fry. I just don't think there's any need for hostility on either end.
