A scorpion only has two things, a tail and pincers. And a character with pincers but no tail, is going to be automatically reminding people of a lobster or crab more than a scorpion
You could go tailless if he was reworked as like a mercenary type character who's codename is "scorpion" but doesn't have any actual traits, maybe just a scorpion symbol or something or like a handheld weapon that is poison stinger based, but at that point it's too different of an idea
