to be clear though, my ultimate point is that i would have preferred if chara received the full narrative attention that asriel got, and wasn't left as a rorschach test for players to decipher and interpret. it bothers me how strongly headcanons dominate perceptions and discussion of chara all over the fandom (especially headcanons that totally whitewash chara) and how much insistence people have on them being a victim more than a vile shithead. they can be both. i would prefer if they were both.
