My fiancee loves iPhone and Apple products in general, she sometimes comments that she wishes I used Apple products too, mainly an iPhone, so we've talked about it before, I've had this conversation in real life and my answers are quite simple too:
1. It's cheaper. I don't want to buy something used, but I also don't want to spend too much on a smartphone I'll only use for mostly basic tasks, spending what even the cheapest new iPhones like the 16e demand is not a good move for me financially if any budget Motorola or Samsung can fill my needs just as well for a fraction of the price.
2. I like Android's UI better. I sometimes use her iPhone and I just don't like how it looks, how it's barely customizeable, and moving around the UI just isn' as comfortable or intuitive to me.
3. Freedom. APKs settle this for me, being able to install what I want freely makes it feel like it's my device.
4. Headphone jack and micro SD slot. Android stil has them on some models.
5. Keyboard. I hate the iPhone keyboard, that's all.
