The main issue with a majority of UI & Design is it's too uniform nowadays for Black, White, or an in between Silver color. It would not be a bad idea to bring back other colorful design templates into the world of the early 00's especially Baby Blue and Green. MSN Messenger was cool, but sadly Skype has done so much damage to the psyche of the public eye that design has fallen to minimalism mode.

It does not matter, but I do believe it is a great QOL feature if you do not care about realism, but more stylish and cartoony visuals. It makes a great difference. The sad part is because the industry is too busy cramming pixels and textures everywhere rather than trying to focus on color gamut and the appeal of aesthetics everything looks boring, dull, gray and hollywood.
