here's my booze bro science which probably has no corroboration.
Beer has more going in it than just alcohol (unless you drink the famous hyper processed piss water), the carbohydrates and vitamins are much better than bread.
Alcohol can help facilitate recovery SOMEHOW like the other anon mentioned. After two drinks someone will get sloppy of course but as the body processes to recover then it will draw from the pool of booze in you at a steady rate. There maybe other things involved of course... like food affecting how drunk you get.
The old "brewer's faire" of steak, eggs, potato, (or at least some high protein assortment) and beer has something to it for sure.`
