You move Heaven and Earth to be with your new partner. You nuke your relationship, your relationships with that person's friends and families, and even forever taint your own self-esteem. It's a Scarlet letter evident to both yourself and countless others. You put yourself through immense strain just to be with that special someone.
Typically how it goes is that you date the first person just because they're available. Then you meet someone you truly love and have to be with them no matter what.
You betrayed the first person. The odds of betraying the second are much lower. You sacrificed everything to be with them; that proves your feelings are not weak.
You don't have to agree but if you don't understand it's because you don't want to understand. People with unconventional views are often punished for them.
