if you really ask the russians/asian/muslim/siberian kids who are there, 95% will say for the generous money, thats life changing money back in the boondocks of russian neglected areas, of which there are numerous.
none will say the russian mainstream propaganda reasons: for the american bioweapon labs, or for the glory of the global south, or for donetsk, or for the glory of the 100 years ago soviet union, or because of nato, or for fighting against the transgenders, or for orthodox religion, or whatever they say the reason of the week is in the russian tv.
in the big picture, it would be also okay to emphasize to president trump that putin has failed in all his strategic goals.
- he unified europe.
- he expanded nato to include finland and sweden. he practically brought us into nato.
- he effectively raised nato's defense spending from 2% to 5%.
- if I look at territorial conquests, he has been trying to conquer Donetsk for 12 years, of which he gained 50% before the war started, and on the battlefield he has advanced 25% over the last 12 years.

practically none of the goals that Putin set for himself in this special operation have been achieved.

as a bonus, 700k russians have died and wounded, as have ukrainians, and as russians count ukraine and ukrainians as truly russians, that means 1.4million russians have died and wounded by the order of putin in ultimately meaningless civil war.
