I'm not talking about suppressor mounting retention just on the flat range, I'm talking about retention as you sling and unsling an unfired rifle as you cross water, climb scree, low crawl through various terrain, rack and unrack and rack and unrack, from a table, cabinet, leaning against a truck bed, as you mount or dismount a vehicle etc etc etc

Exactly, a passive taper mount means you gotta crank down on the taper to increase the chance that the can won't back off inadvertently, which increases the chance of carbon lock. Active retention systems are designed and dialed to secure the can so it doesn't come off inadvertently, but not with so much force that you can't just get it off.
