I have a confession: I've been playing text-based porn games for at least 15 years and I almost never read anything. I played CoC when it was still Unnamed Text Game, FoE, CoC2, TiTs, CoC mods, Free Cities and probably close to 200 others, many in twine.
I read almost nothing except character descriptions. I skim the beginning and end of scenes, that's it. Almost everything I get out of it is just stuff I imagine in my own head. I'll get the appearance, demeanor and some lines from characters to flesh out what I think of them and then that's about it. 90% of the time I look at a 10 paragraph scene and just hit 'next', 10% of the time I skim it to get the gist.
I assume this is not how most people play these games but it's what I enjoy. I do most of the imagining in my own head rather than reading how somebody else would have the situation play out between my character and a NPC.
