Learn to forget about the timer. Don't ignore it but just focus on doing your objectives, getting resolve up (ideally to the blue) and open up the map. Assess caches and if they contain shit you don't need then save 'em for a (pardon the pun) rainy day. A good mindset to adopt is setting up a supply chain to a non-wood fuel source ASAP and unassigning all your woodcutters when the storm hits. Don't worry much about losing colonists, it sucks but it happens and you've got time between storms to try and rectify that.

Even my rougher runs, once I'm past the rocky start tend to end really comfy. Though I won't deny that lizards and foxes can fuck off and die. Harpies get a pass for their hearth assignment bonus being crazy good.

God, the always online shit though, especially after pirates clowned on 'em and shown it was bullshit was, well, bullshit. I remember having to refund Just Cause 3 because my connection was rough at the time and the offline mode for that game was a fucking joke.
