Playing through this for the first time, and I gotta say, as someone with no nostalgia for it, it's kind of dog shit. I can see the potential in the combat system so I'm gonna keep playing for now, but it feels like I'm swimming through mounds of shit to get to the occasional battle that's actually fun and interesting.

No reason they couldn't have gotten rid of these for this game. Even pokemon colosseum didnt have random encounters, and that's a fucking pokemon game, so this game has no excuse.

The main premise is fairly compelling, but there's so much unnecessary filler bullshit that I don't care about, so much cringe dialogue and voice acting, awkward pacing and pausing in cutscenes, and overall the story is just delivered dreadfully, while taking so fucking long to get through. I get that it was one of the first major games to have voice acting etc., so I should give it some leniency, but that's no excuse really. They bit off more than they could chew with this game, and made a bad product as a result.

It's just a skill tree that forces you to press a million buttons just to level up your guys. Complete time waster, genuinely by far the worst implementation of a skill tree UI I have ever seen.

The implementation of tutorials in this game are bizarre. After the first sphere grid tutorial, I talked to a character who said something in the games made up language, and I responded yes just to see what would happen, and I'm forced to repeat the exact same fucking unskippable tutorial that explains to me how to press the a button to confirm. What the fuck? How did this make it past testing? Genuinely one of the most dogshit retarded moments in a game I've ever seen. And then there's the blitzball tutorial that just dumps like 50 different tutorials on you all at once, that do a shit job of explaining anything anyway. So fucking trash.
