The pen/paths tool is also the best way to make cutouts/transparencies from anime screenshots like this, because once you draw a path with the pen/paths tool, you can stroke over the path with a line, fill the path with a solid color or turn the path into a selection - you'd use the last option to make a transparency like this.
And for those who like/want to make transparencies like this, the best way to do it is to cut 1 pixel into the lineart then, after you remove the background, do a 1px outer glow (photoshop)/drop shadow (GIMP) filter on the layer to replace the lineart you cut out.

The only similar game to HK for me was Nine Sols. Blasphemous is meh. Blasphemous is one step forward one step back. Castlevania doesn't feel like HK at all. Don't care about genrefagging. Rabi-rabi is apparently high tier metroidvania but it didn't hit anything for me. Same fore all metroids.
