True about the MC, but I think MT's real forte is world building and emotional moments. Imho, the best Isekai Japan has ever produced are still Twelve Kingdoms, the original Digimon Adventure and Magical Knight Rayearth, but MT and Log Hirozon are right behind along with Dunbine and El Hazard OVAs. Rudeus does have one of the best harems ever though, mostly because it includes Eris. Honestly? Eris would've easily worked as Rudeus's sole love interest, but my working hypothesis while reading the books is that this trology of women represent complementary aspects of Rudy's own persona (Rudy the mage and scholar pairs Roxy, Rudy the adventurer and protector paired with Eris, and Rudy the family man paired with the Elf) as well as his development leading to be a kind of man that won't leave family, including the women he loves, behind.
