What do people think tariffs are?
The whole point of them is to jack up the prices of imported goods so people choose to buy cheaper, local products instead which encourages investment into local production and creates jobs.
This was always going to be short term pain long term gain. God forbid you have a leader who plants trees instead of uprooting them to sell to foreigners
