Anything beyond S&M era is fucked. Everything Before S&M era is very rare compared to the 2020-25 market.
rarest sets from before 2020 are gen 4-5. S&M is the least rare sets from pre 2020. Any real long term investability in pokemon is pre 2020 cards. S&M sets, though some being snoozers like ultra prism and crimson invasion, are going to be the cheapest to obtain. XY sets are undervalued compared to tag team sets due to the pop reports. so if you can get XY go for it. especially flashfire. if you can afford tag team sets for 10k booster boxes, i suggest going for older gen sets like gens 4-5 being that generation is far more rare than S&M. if you can afford 20k booster boxes, you should be going for gens 1-3.
this is the real long term investable market. everything else is just zoomers living on the modern era prayer, and they aint even half way there.
