Anyhow, you seem to be on the right track considering you aren't punisbing him for standing up for himself. Even if it's not ideal that your son is getting into fights, its better that he's standing up for himself rather than being a pushover. Being slightly more aggressive seems to take you a lot further in life than being passive does, for boys at least. You can always justify actions after they've happened, but you cant do that for inaction. 10 years from now when he's a teenager you'll be happier with an outgoing son who gets into trouble occasionally, rather than a depressed and meek son who can't socialise properly because of negative early development experiences.
