This isn't the honest truth about why it's really so frowned upon.
Incest is one of the biggest causes of family breakdowns and violence and suicides. It's not just that we've seen upticks in brother/sister offspring that's retarded in recent decades, it's that there's too many cases where incest falls under pedophilia, either an adult brother abusing a minor sister, or a dad and his daughter, in abuse cases. That gives incest a bad name on top of the birth defect risks.
The truth is also that in civilized society allowing sex between adult family members is cause for Oedipus complexes and reactions. A mom in an affair with her son, leading to homicide because the dad's life is ruined. A brother and sister putting their parents through grief.
Even if it's perfectly acceptable "Love" between the 2 people doing it, it's almost always hurting someone in the family who isn't part of it.
For example, my younger sister is a hotgirl and I'd totally do it, if it was legal and if it was consensual, but I wouldn't. Not because of my mom, I literally couldn't care less. But because my older sister and I were tied by the hip as kids, and she has a very trusting relationship with me. She's often seemed a bit agitated when I get along too well with my younger. And I know if I did something she would feel hurt and betrayed, even if it was in a world where it was somehow legal.
it's a family bonds problem too.
