It can work as a first time playthrough once you ease into the quirked vocabulary and roundabout and ominous implications, since everything Malks say is really just running the usual dialogue through that, but I agree with others that it's best as a 2nd because you really have to experience putting up with LaCroix and Ming acting so self assured the first time around to appreciate things like them straining to keep composed with someone they're not sure is even all there.
