Yes. Malkavians are not meant for first playthroughs. it's that simple.
Shit they say starts to make sense when you are running the story a second time and you know the rough beats of the narrative. The constant forshadowing and quips that make it clear that you actually know a LOT more than anyone else make perfect sense when you - much like the malkavian, have the power of forsight (through having played the game at least once).

Bot most of the humor, but the tons of NEW insights into what is going on stems from you, much like your malkavian characters, are already in on the joke - you both KNOW what is going on, and that makes this version of the story, where you play as someone who both as a player, and as a character, has knowledge that nobody else has.

For a first playthrough, Malkavian is your worst choice. Or second worst choice: Nosferata are also a terrible first playthrough option.

/v/ is unfortinately flooded with retards that got tricked into played Malk first and now want other people to ruin the game the same way they did, because they are bitter or in denial.

But Malk is NOT for the first playthrough. In fact Malk should be straight up locked as an option until you finish the game all at once. It's one of those troika games where they prioritize freedom over ballance, but this one is a very bad one.

Start a new game, pick any other Clan (except Nosfertatu, start a new, finish the game regularly, and when in a few weeks or months you get an inch to replay it second time, pick Malkavian. it's that simple, it's the absolute golden rule of how to play this game. Do not believe anyone who tells you otherwise, they are retards or bitter cunts who just want others to ruin the their games out of spite.

I never felt like playing malkavian ruined my first playthrough though. It's way more fun having unhinged dialogue options and the foreshadowing didn't feel that bad when mixed with all the madness. It can work as a first time playthrough once you ease into the quirked vocabulary and roundabout and ominous implications, since everything Malks say is really just running the usual dialogue through that, but I agree with others that it's best as a 2nd because you really have to experience putting up with LaCroix and Ming acting so self assured the first time around to appreciate things like them straining to keep composed with someone they're not sure is even all there.

You can argue that most people are idiots all you want, but choosing Malk as your first playthrough when you don’t know how the dialgoue works in this game is a blatant trap that will only piss people off. The issue about that shit is the entire scene, the scene composition, not the particular words. The Wolf gets extremely angry with a dude that any 100+ IQ player would know is not the culprit in a bar. The dude in question is extremely hostile. If you even reach the [Glass Him] option, that means you've navigated 4 dialogues options where the Wolf tries would have eviscerated the dude in the bar, because _you_ know he's not the culprit, and you want to know more.

Then the conversation cools off. You both sits together. The dude, finally, opens up. You breath. You will know the truth about what happened, you navigated the minefield of bad answers. You calm down. The dude say... "I... don't know what to tell you... I'm so sorry... So sorry! I... it's hard!"

There is literally every thing wrong with it. There is about 5-10 OBJECTIVE reasons why it's a bad way to play. Straight up objectively wrong to approach it.
This isn't rocket science. Turning "spoilers on" mod is just a WRONG WAY TO APPROACH ANY FICTION.
The spoilers will stop being spoilers and become a good source of entertainment and even a source entertainment of number of new insights on repeated playthrough.

Malkavian ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY BENEFITS from being played second.
While every other raise straight up loses some of it's appeal when Malkavian is played first.
It's really fucking simple problem. Spoilers mixed with seeming nonsense make the game worse.
Spoilers that are no longer spoilers, but now became a tool to enhance your immersion and better understand and appreciate the charater and give you insight you'd otherwise not have: That objectively makes the game better.

Going from anything but malk into a malk playthrough enhances the experience.
Going from Malk to any other clain objectively making the experience worse.

The CYOa games have a good deal of replayability though. Night Roads has money management you have to deal with, breaching the Masquerade can effect the story, you get different choices based on the convictions your character ends up having, and the obvious differences that your and the Disciplines you know brings. It's mainly that V5 and W5 degrade the setting's more dark and edgy vibes for a focus on essentially roleplaying victims and things like the Beckoning and the SI function more as as boogeymen to excuse it. Tremere Pyramid is importantly gone at the global level but still very much exists at a localized level in chantries outside of Vienna, and it also didn't actually explode but was a 530000 IQ move. The Superman Vampire stuff also isn't a big deal since you COULD deal with them, but it wasn't a cakewalk. Now they just don't exist and got replaced by even more powerful antediluvians. It isn't entirely dogshit, but it ruins a lot of the feeling. Blood potency is also rather dogshit
