I like to think Tenna provokes Spamton on purpose to rile him up and make him act more domineering.
I also think due to his freedom obsession, Spamton is very non-committal while Tenna with his BPD is actually the more controlling partner that guilt trips Spamton. Tenna wants to get married after a month of dating and Spamton is the guy that says he isn't ready to move in despite dating for 3 years.
Despite their toxic traits, they actually do love each other and were happy together(evident by the Z-rank room poster). Though I like to believe their relationship started spiraling downwards near the end and that's why they carry a lot of bitter feelings towards each other. The whole "it was all a misunderstanding" trope doesn't really work for there 2 when they have fundamental flaws that negatively affected the other. It's obvious they carry deeper resentment beyond feeling scammed.
It's not like their relationship is unrecoverable though, I think with Spamton getting humbled after his schizo fight and Tenna accepting the past and moving on, they'd probably be willing to start over again.

I think Tenna really wants Spamton to be this uber confident daddy dom guy to get away from the stress of being the boss of TV World.
Spamton is allergic to taking on a sub role because of his narcissism, but he quickly realizes that subs tend to be the most demanding and selfish in BDSM. He ends up just following Tenna's orders the first several times they do it.
