Making a dilemma about the idea of morals in general, what is good, what is evil, where both sides align into a gray zone.
That is more interesting and, sadly, not that well explored in media. Things are either LE GOOD or LE EVIL, but never explored more as to why its good or why its evil.
The player gets rewarded for being on the GOOD path all the time, with barely any repercussions, as if its the intended path.
The player gets shit for being on the EVIL path, and its usually not worth the hassle, both because of how much the game screws you over, how badly written it is, or how there's nothing much to it.
Not to mention that, if we take the Genocide route from UT as an example, your entire EVIL run can end just because you decided to spare one monster.
You'll still kill everything after that, but you're not EVIL anymore because you did one good deed.

We see "evil" as "bad", but there's also "necessary evil". Good and evil do have to exist.
So lets see what is the "good route".

They likely are connected to the shelter codes and the Knight/Kris/Carol want them out of the way. But they also specifically mention "police sacrifice" so maybe there is another purpose for their kidnapping.

I feel like the best angle you can do (and maybe what DR might be leaning on) is that even if you can't live in this worlds directly, that doesn't mean they can't be the reason you keep moving. You can make new adventures for them, it might not be canon to the "prime" timeline to the player, that's a loose concept anyway as no two player's playthrough will be the same when you get into the details (different strategies being used, reactions to the story, etc. even if to the same ending).

I think the bunker runs under the entire town and forms a series of catacomb-like connections to multiple other buildings, including the Holiday mansion, the church, and the library. There's that same slowed down smile.wav playing in Noelle's basement and outside the bunker, so this could explain a lot of things, such as how the Knight is able to quickly move around Hometown in broad daylight without being noticed. The closets in the church and library, which Kris can't go into, are entrances to the network. It makes sense that Kris wouldn't want to go in them while the Knight was still hiding in there, but if they're just ordinary dead-end rooms, why are they being hidden from us? We don't get to see what's in either of them at any point in the game. Of course, you'd probably need the same bunker key to actually get into these tunnels, but we might at least see a keypad if we went into the closets. Could be another reason why Kris refuses to go inside.
