Amy is "Girl Sonic". This, is true. But not what you think that means.

Amy is just "Sonic", through a hyper feminine lens. Like when fangirl writers try and make Sonic more emotional and energetic and cute and romantic, THAT is Amy. That is who AMY is. She's pink and girly and romantic and "cute and full of energy", but beneath all of that is a mirror of Sonic's own traits and characteristics. She is free-spirited, adventurous, impulsive, short-tempered yet easy going, pure-hearted, etc. Amy is everything that Sonic is through rose-tinted "Girl" lenses. She is designed to be his "Minnie Mouse".

Sally Acorn is Sonic's foil, "Nega-Sonic". She is designed to be everything Sonic is NOT. That, is the opposite of what Amy is. Amy is Sonic's mirror, she is another Sonic. Sonic embodies everything Amy loves and values in life, and that's why she's drawn to him.

To suggest that

No. It goes deeper than that. Take the concept of "Sonic" and filter it through the concept of "Girl", and you get Amy. Look at how fan girls change and reinterpret Sonic's character for their shipping nonsense, and that's the kind of framework Amy exists from. But really, Amy is the female version of everything Sonic is. She is not a mere genderswap of Sonic, she is the feminine reflection of Sonic.

Sonic, in-turn, is a masculine reflection of Amy.

And a very important distinction is that Amy is very passionate while Sonic is cool and aloof. Sonic is a cool guy, Amy is a genki girl. You're not gonna see Sonic cry or be overly emotional or affectionate, while Amy is nothing but emotional and affection to the most extreme degree.
