It's pretty stable and there's zero damage or risk, what platform are you using?
You take 30 minutes to a hour to set it and forget it and just test your workloads after every driver update and adjust as needed. If anything as the software updates you will only see a change in being able to boost the memory OC for the 5000 series.

5090 is crippled in vram by design so you're only letting yourself get power crept for 6k+ cards. 16gb should be the pushing it range of high end, many of our tools were made by people using lower end cards
