I'm the guy trying to build a Melek deck. I also recently saw aliana from bloomburrow and she seems to be a more reliable albeit less fun choice (she lets you copy the first instant/sorcery . I figure I can run a mostly similar deck, but swapping in more otters if I run the Otter commander. I know I can run both in the same deck regardless of who the commander is.
Anybody have budget friendly card recs? I'm not running shit like rhystic study on principle but I might proxxy a Sensei's divining top. Most otter and noncreature stuff with good synergy, while not being the best, is really cheap.

I used to play when I was a high school student back in 2015-16. Me and a friend would play casual tribal or gimmmick decks that we'd put together with our leftover allowance money.
I had a crappy (by today's standards) Jor Kadeen deck with lots of weenies, artifacts, and support for those artifacts.
My old friends who never played are picking up the game because of FF but they don't how to play. I moved away but I'm going back in January for about 6 weeks on vacation.
I remember this bulk rare from years ago and he looks like a really fun commander. Is he viable or is he TOO Johnny for today's environment?
>expensive
>can't defend himself without library manipulation
>only impacts the card on top of your deck
I've been wanting to move away from the aggresive green/red decks of my school days to a spell slinger deck that copies a twincast on an already copied spell. Is Melek a good commander for this or will I have a better time with a similar yet stronger commander? Do I need to build the deck around sensei's top and tutoring it up? I don't want to get my face beat in while I'm trying hard to make a 6 mana 2/4 work.
>tldr
Is Melek viable or kind of shit by today's standards? How much support does he need? Is there a better commander for spell slinger "instant and sorcery" decks?
