Dude I beat him on master mode and I'm not even very good at the game, what difficulty are you on? Just build a decent sized arena and shoot him. Use the slime mount to fastfall if you're having trouble getting away. I beat him with a gold bow firing frostburn arrows.
I'd say use Bee Gun and full bee build but that's just me and my pre hardmode bee addiction. Not everyone wants to farm two shark tooth necklaces and whatnot.

Here's my two cents:
Nothing sells anymore so at the very least they could stop using the same fucking characters every 6 months. It wouldn't make a difference to the game's performance at this point.
We're in an era now where a Thracia banner headlined by Machyua and Leif does better than an Awakening NH banner with Tharja and two Robins so any claims based in salesfaggotry are out of the window.
"They don't sell" isn't an excuse anymore because nobody sells. So they could at least stop using the same boring mid characters over and over again in the span of less than a year.
This isn't just "Engage bad" either because the Awakening NH banner was the same way and it fucking sucked because of it, we had literally JUST had Noire and Tharja on a banner 8 months before. Its fucking boring. Getting a Veyle or Lumera or MAlear or Celine every six months is fucking boring and there's no reason to do it.
