Yes we use those things every day, but those things can be made worse, but they were made better because of our self satisfaction with them. I could just eat tasteless mush all day, but I choose to put the effort in because I want something better to satisfy me. An artist thinks the exact same thing about a block of wood. Sure you could decorate your house with a block of wood, or you can turn it into something cool, like a grizzly bear or some shit. Even if nobody else gets to see it, an artist would feel the satisfaction of doing it.
