I zero at 50 and can shoot down to like 20-25 feet with little to no shift, even on a target as small as a squirrel. Love that zero and scope combo as my scope keeps focus even up close. Fixed parallax at 60yd on that scope works weirdly well. At 100yd with my scope, an 18.5" barrel, and 1280fps ammo it's like 5-7MOA holdover (first big hash below crosshairs plus one or two small; just started practicing again after a break due to being rather busy). Too much for me to keep in mind when hunting. 50, fine, 100, fine at the range (more or less). What about 75? 93? 68? I have no clue! Scope is:

With IIRC the medium rings from earlier (doubt I bought low).

And now that I think of it, 25yd max vs my (claimed) ~50 max comfortable shot when stretching it isn't much different in practice. I'd say an average shot for me is either like 10yds or 25/35yds. Sometimes I find them on tight trails, sometimes I catch them at a medium distance sitting. Varies. But anything further I'd really only take in very specific conditions when I have a lot of experience that season already and I know my skills are sharp, my gun is shooting good, my nerves are very calm, my zoom lets me see well at that range, and I know no matter what I won't lose game. If there's any doubt I won't do it.

NTA but I love my budget Leupolds FWIW but I've never bought anything but the 3-9x40 Rimfire MOA because the reticle is the best out of all the budget options (and even some above it) IMO. It's just the same guts as the other options like the simple duplex models in the 3-9x40 VX Freedom line with a different reticle. Yes it can handle the recoil; I've used one on an AR and even the Q&A on their site says it'll hold up to IIRC 270, etc as it's the same as the others. Details of the reticle is on their site. If you're looking for a $300 scope with no fancy features (no dials, no adjusting for wind, no parallax adjustment, set and forget and draw up a drop chart for your reticle/what line indicates x yards), then it's a good scope. If you're looking for fancy, look higher in their catalog. Haven't scratched the finish or knocked it off adjustment once despite my best (accidental) intentions of doing so knocking it off all the hardest objects I can find including trees, car frames, and huge rocks. I do also, however, set my scope up with a FAT wrench to torque specs on Leupold's site and paint marker everything that can move to make sure screws don't rotate nor the scope in the rings (visual indicator). None have on two scopes over a couple years. But not mentioning budget means I have no fucking clue what else to recommend.
