If you don't want to study which stocks to buy a mutual fund is an easy option.
I have one from Wells Fargo that's broadly invested in like 70 of the top companies. I get about a 15% return on it in a year and about 2% in dividends. Obviously I could do better if I picked a good stock; but being so diversified means I don't have to worry about a single stock tanking only about the whole market tanking.
