>>213862217 (OP)CORRECT
>213862646WRONG
>>213863910Star Trek is basically space Marxism, right? No money, no poverty, replicators make what people need, etc. And "woke" is essentially cultural Marxism where identity has replaced class as the source of the "struggle". So, since both are space Marxism, what do you have against nuTrek?
>>213864441Not really. It's more space utopianism that's filtered through the lens of whomever is writing for it at the time. Marxism revolves around the abolition of private property and centralized control of the means of production.
>From each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Basically, self-sacrifice of the most competent who will give endlessly to the petty needs of those who can't (or won't) do for themselves. It may not be exactly how they lay it out but, that's inevitably what happens. They just leave out the part where they have to achieve it all by gunpoint.
Star Trek is the farthest thing from marxist, due to the level of freedom space travel and technology brings. The most competent are needed for Starfleet, primarily for exploration and the search for more resources/diplomacy.
>>213865236You deny Star Trek is space Marxism, then describe Marxism, unaware that you're describing Star Trek to a T. Majel Barrett once said Roddenberry identified as a communist. TNG is almost cartoonishly communist. Why deny any of this?
>>213865236>centralized control of the means of production>Marxism
>>213865531Correct, that is Marxist
>>213865531Nothing happens unless the Federation OKs it. Without replicators, and the power that the Federation provides to run them, people have nothing. If they fall out of favor with the Federation, the Federation can take everything from them.

>>213862646The show would be addressed as "The Emmy Award nominated and Hugo Award winning Star Trek: Lower Decks."
>>213865399Because a key tenet for marxism is abolition of private property
People in trek have private property
WW3 and the Eugenics War kill off the vast majority of the gold brickers, layabouts and undesirables, leaving a vast majority of people who strive for success for personal growth. They have just solved the scarcity issue with replicators.

>>213866819>private propertyMeans anything that is used to generate capital in Marxist terms. If it doesn't generate capital, then it's not considered private property.
There are no capital goods in the Federation. The Federation doesn't even use money, so you can't generate capital. It has already "abolished private property".
From the gommie manifesto itself:
>The distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolition of property generally, but the abolition of bourgeois property.

>>213869666Shatner definitely cared about Trek, but at this point it's got to be all melancholy memories. I think his last outing in Unification spells it out.
>>213865776Well youre also revealing a key component of the atheist 'State as God' model relies on the fairy tale of space exploration and colonization and the imminent destruction of Earth via 'global warming' and such which Star Trek serves as propaganda for. meanwhile in reality space travel isnt seemingly now possible and replicators dont exist so its still all a lefitst wet dream or rationalist nightmare.
>>213865682You are literally a mentally retarded person none of you retarded communists are productive you refuse to work how are you going to take over the means of production you fucking retard. You should be institutionalized Iโm dead serious. Are you gonna go work on the oil field? Thatโs the means of production you arenโt a communist youโre a welfare recipient shut your retarded ass up
>>213871090But Star Trek constantly scrutinizes atheism in TOS, TNG, and DS9 and the entire backstory was how the state fucked up big time and went with the most monstrous solution to solve its problems, with the best thing it did killing itself off in nuclear fire so all the smart people can start over.
The entire rationale for the Prime Directive is how the Federation shouldn't be playing moral guardian for the galaxy and using force to get people to heel, with the premise being that through exemplar standards of living and freedom people will *want* to join the Federation on their own volition.
>>213868841DSN is much worse
>>213871228You are a mentally retarded person
>>213871090In Star Trek canon, global warming was solved by eco-terrorists genociding all the polluting countries and the Federation has to pretend they're worse than Hitler even though they're the only reason why San Fransisco isn't at the bottom of the sea.
Communists kill children and elders they deem unproductive. Every single one of you neets would be shipped to the glue factory if communism was the worldwide standard. Itโs larp
>>213871453It is much much worse. It is bad. It is not good art. Itโs a soap. You like it because you are a gay satanist that needs a token black friend. Youโve not shit and you have trash taste
>>213870886I'd much rather they not do that at all, because we already saw them do that with Control in STD, and it was the most mindnumbing garbage.
If anything, I want them to do something like
>planet achieves advanced technology>planet becomes dependent on the technology for little things>over time, planet becomes dumber and dumber and the majority lose the ability to take care of themselves>planet collapses under the weight of its own industry and everyone being so stupid>no one knows how to do anything anymore because they were raised by the technology>planet dies not with a bang, but with a whimperYes I hate zoomers and ipad kids
>>213871228I understand what youre saying but you need to also understand people like Richard Dawkins himself arent real 'atheists' they just think God is a hyper advanced alien and thats basically what multiple star trek episodes are proposing as well. So maybe 'atheism' is wrong but its a new age kind of blending of religion and scifi no matter how you look at it.
>>213871551>Richard Dawkins himself arent real 'atheists' they just think God is a hyper advanced aliensource?
>>213871090Now I'm not sure what slop NuTrek is peddling nowadays, but
> atheist 'State as God' model relies on the fairy tale of space exploration and colonization Describes the Borg which are depicted as one of the few unambiguously evil factions within Star Trek's roster. We joke about how the Federation is luxury gay space communism, but the one thing that sets it apart from the dystopian bugman state being pushed by today's elites is the fact it is individualist: above everything, it's about giving (you) as much personal freedom as is practically sustainable without people infringing on others' freedom. In the Federation, you can own a tank or your own personal island or get lost in a holodeck or just laze all day on the beach.
It is the opposite of the collectivist bughive where everyone eats cricket gruel because that's all they can afford to supply to the masses. When the kind of retards abusing welfare endanger the quality of life for the whole like in the Maquis arc, the Federation cuts them loose where's the commies would drag everyone down for their sake.
>>213862217 (OP)You think that's good just wait till you get to TNG and DS9
>>213871551Dawkins doesn't seem to recognize Monotheism is as much a philosophical stance as it is a religious one; he's busy arguing over the contents of historical texts as though it were something profound to say while we can readily see modern history being twisted into biases before our eyes.
The reason why Christianity took so well into Greco-Roman Europe was because the concept of God under at least the Kabbalah postulates the idea of a "perfect" consciousness, someone who is not merely omnipotent and omniscient, but omnibenevolent, lining up neatly with Plato's Theory of Forms. And, under the infinitesimal chance such a being exists, it is never not a worthwhile endeavor to seek Them out, to appeal for aid, even if it's just as an excuse to see what lies beyond the horizon.
That goes for all forms of perfection.
>>213871736I thought it was funny in Nu-Trek they made a "voluntary" bog collective and implied it's this great thing to cure loneliness or some shit.
>>213871736I think the important part is that it's collectivist, but in a purely voluntary sense. Like as bad as the Dominion War gets, we never hear about anyone even contemplating conscription. You don't need the stick or the carrot when something is so self-evidently worth taking part in, preserving and growing.
They do it without casting any dispersions on those that don't want to, too. Obviously the stories focus on the explorers on the cool ships doing cool things, but it's never treated as more worthy than say, Sisko's dad keeping Louisiana Creole cooking alive. As long as you're being your best self and enjoying the luxury gay space communism's ability to free you to be that, nobody's too fussed generally.
>Now I'm not sure what slop NuTrek is peddling nowadaysI confess I haven't watched it because rather than hurt myself and blame someone else I'd rather just not watch something that I don't think I'll enjoy, but one idea I did like that apparently got tossed around in the later Discovery seasons is that with a Federation in decline in the 32nd century, Earth has actually left. Now I don't like it in a few ways, but I really like the idea that the institutions are strong enough and universal enough to keep going without even core founding members. It's a shared dream worth fighting for and if some stop believing that's okay, because others will take their place.
>>213872179The idea of a non-evil collective is kinda neat but christ they did not know what to do with it.

>>213862217 (OP)TOS is kino because the writers understood they were writing seafaring adventures in space and directly adapted the plots for several episodes from old stories like moby dick (doomsday machine) and the enemy below (balance of terror.) Despite all of the whacky rubber suits, cheap effects, and at times spotty acting it holds together because it was intelligent enough not to get lost inside of its own asshole the way modern sci-fi often does. It borrowed from the classics and it's a better show for it.
>>213872917Yeah I felt the same. Its a scifi trope though to make civilian ships smaller than warships when in reality it was the complete opposite, freighters dwarfed naval ships often by several margins.

Please don't listen to the "early TNG is good and like TOS anon", he's woefully incorrect. While it's true that early TNG retains the camp and costume sensibilities of 1960s Star Trek in part, it also leaves its most important quality behind: great writing.
There is not a single great episode in Season 1 and Season 2 only has Measure of a Man (which is filled with plot holes and logical fallacies but if you squint a little, it's a worthy successor to TOS).
Compare that to Season 1 of TOS which is just banger after banger after banger of incredibly snappy, well-written episodes, each with something to say. And it carries right on in through the first half of Season 2.
TNG S1-S2 is far, far worse than TOS S1-S2 which might be the best Trek run ever.
You should still watch early TNG. You MUST watch early TNG for the introduction of the characters, etc, but you should lower those expectations mightily from your TOS experience.

Star Trek is post-capitalism. It's free market but since there is energy and material abundance the common man is free from exploitative labor. It's actually closer to American frontier times than industrial society.

Any big draw at a comicon type convention has to do this becuase there are literally thousands of people waiting. If they have signed on for 4 hours of singing and selfies, that allows for only a very limited "hello" per person.
>im going to tell you what your career means to my dad. We first watched...."Fuck no. Not for the main draws.
You have to firmly shut down fans when they start up with this behavior, or the celebritiy will run out of time. Either they walk away on scheduled end time leaving hundreds of dissapointes people waiting, or the celeb is forced to stay hours late making sure everyone gets to get the selfie/autograph. Both are bad outcomes.
Someone with a shorter line, you can chit chat with them and they will even tell stories or ask fans about themselves. There is time for that. But shatner is a massive top draw at any Con he shows up at. He isnt being a jerk, its just an overwhelming wave of humanity hurled at him and he has to handle it in a timely manner.
>>213879413Itโs you in the green isnโt it?

>>213877547No. Go work on the oil field. Go do any hard manual labor they will hire you. And thatโs the kind of work you would be forced into. You are a low value asset. You LITERALLY HAVE SCHIZOPHRENIA. This shit is so cut and dry simple the jobs the communist masses are forced to do are largely unfilled here thatโs why we import labor. You are fucking retarded in the most quantifiable scientific sense I have tested you rigorously. Hey Paramount why don't you do a Mirror Universe movie with Shatner as an old Kirk!! The fact that he hasn't been in any Trek related media in over 30 years is a CRIME!!! Just call it Tiberius. Shit writes itself..
Watching "Riddles" from Voyager. There aren't many Tuvok episodes, but I like this one
>>213879714Only to some people. A Piece of the Action is my favorite episode of Star Trek, but the corbomite maneuver is meh. Measure of a man and the Drumhead from TNG are better than 90% of TOS
>>213879650Projection + Who bullied you
>>213880180What the fuck do you mean projection you are literally a schizophrenic retard. In communist countries people are forced to work. A useless person that says they cannot find work will be sent to the glue factory. You donโt understand this because you are literally mentally retarded
