I went with a couple different versions of monochrome then started adding some color. When every single little thing from what level of bracket to overloaded operators to user methods have their own color it just becomes a hindrance for me.

GSC are the worst of the first 5 gens, but they're still simplistic GB games you can blast through quickly.
HGSS just pads them putting way too many key items in the postgame/side activities (Battle Frontier/Pokethlon/Voltorb Flip/Phone calls) leaving the first half the game feel rudimentary. It did little to fix the level curve, enemy trainers, or distribution of Johto pokemon, leading to a boring gameplay experience.
