That many are forgotten as they are mere phantoms of what people REALLY want. In the case of picreel, Sonic Mania happened and thus people moved on.
Why didn't this series take off as well as other other sonic fangames and titles? The voice acting and the cutscenes are kinda cringe sometimes but it's overall pretty good. Definitely a contender for other 2d classic titles
