>But I guess politics and agendas were never the problem? It was just... ugly people?
Apex Legends went from lauding the diversity behind their characters to the last five releases being white/Asian and attractive. Deadlock went from having nothing but ugly mutts at start (to the point Ivy, the gargoyle, was the only notably fuckable character) to suddenly having a hot vampire nepobaby and Portal Scout. I'm calling out the beauty of the characters in Deadlock and Apex Legends because they're games whose primary drive *are* the characters. Characters and Character Design to hero shooters are like stories to RPGs; they define them.
These get called out by other people because they're unusual. We are not used to a consistent flow of white and/or attractive characters into games. There's usually only like... One in a game, maybe two, and the rest are Le Black Woman Face. Suddenly pivoting to making attractive characters is a sign that something's happened in the studios. I want to see genuinely non-woke writing, of course, but that will take time since the pivot only started last year.
