I'm holding back final judgement until at least the Fag Zoomer Angels episode drops but I think my view of what's gone wrong with the show is coming together.
It's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be for starters.
But what I think has happened is that team Imaishi have sat around kicking around ideas for this show for well over a decade. They've got a truckload of ideas and they all wanted to make them. And so that's nu PSG, it's just a bunch of ideas shoved into the show. They're so focused on getting those concepts all into the show now that they own the IP again that they've kind of lost site of the follow through. The individual episodes aren't holding up. Like the ideas are more important than the execution this time around.
I think things like the extra short episodes are 100% a result of this dynamic. It's so they can do more of these concepts they had but I think in the end they're cheating those ideas by making them impossible to do really well.

This is definitively the best I can encode the transformation sequence at 720p. Trigger's got a lot of gay modern depth of field applied this time around and it makes it pretty hard to filter when it's already got multiple focal depths cocking up any softening/sharpening I try to do to it.
