Countering just makes it harder to steal as if they hit her and she gets into a slapfest with them, then she could kill the foe before the item in question is obtained. It can also put her in danger against stupidly strong enemies like Baal hit really damn hard, so again getting into a counter fight could mean a loss on her part.

Spears are fun in 1 when combined with her special ability to cast a spell after using a normal attack. She can poke and cast or use a special to polevault around, which is very useful for getting around and playing a sort of hit and run with enemies.
