This might prove controversial, but I'd say that anyone who ranks S4 above S1-S3 never really 'got' what gave the show its unique appeal in the first place. S4 leaned hard towards what every other cartoon at the time was doing, so S4 fans presumably prefer that sort of thing and were never really that much into comfy mare moral fables.
