Problem with thorium for energy is the molten salt rusts the piping.
It's not as simple as "just use anticoroding agents or paint" as that cause brand new problems with the high heat in the pipe and the molten salt.
In theory, a high heat glass for the piping could work.... but making something like that is damn near impossible.

I have wondered why we don't use thorium for water desalination. The set up for a simple mass scale desalination set up using thorium as the heat source would be relatively easy and leave you with both salt and water as a byproduct
