the point is to keep inertia up by boosting
you drift to gain boost/health, you can also do tricks off jumps for boost, you have an actual jump button, similar to mario kart, that you can use to gain height off both ramps and undulations in the road. however, if you fail the trick you lose speed AND boost.
while drifting there is a mariokart style microboost that has 3 levels of charge which you can just spam freely as long as you are drifting.
the basic idea is the same as f-zero gx except the game harshly punishes mistakes and while it has pretty decent content as far as music and assets (lol) as far as the racing goes it's a really shallow clone of f-zero gx with some extremely ill-fitting mario kart elements thrown in and lacks the mind melting speeds, tight controls, and top tier track design of its elder.
