lots of reasons. nihilism is on the rise and the youth are looking to cope with self harm in socially acceptable ways. also smoking unfortunately just looks badass, theres no way other way to say it. keeps you awake on long shifts, romanticism of craving death, lets you briefly socialize with strangers, warm thing to have in the winter, take your pick.
all that said smoking is fucking stupid and i wish it wasnt so deeply embedded into queer circles. hell i refuse to hang out with certain people anymore because i know i am going to smoke with them and restart the habit.
