What I believe that we need is more time, maybe we just aren't ready yet. You did mention you're freshly out of a toxic situationship. Give it some time and remember to take that whatever happened to you in the past as an opportunity to learn.

Some guys see sex as a casual thing, we (at least I assume I can speak for him too) take intimacy as a sacred thing and makes us grow attached. Not the same when you jerk off to someone you don't know obviously.
