She gave a few good ones like Goldmary and Chloe, but designs like Timerra and Alear needed to be reigned in. Too many details, too many colors. Too much stuff that would get in the way when just walking normally.

Sure, but I'd say Vali is a better design than Hortensia. Even comparing their two-tone hairstyles, Vali just has a little side-tie, while Hortensia has this weird double-donut with its own side ties shooting off to the side, while also just randomly flopping between colors.
Vali matching Hodr and Baldr shows uniformity, too. Nobody else in Elusia looks like Hortensia. Ivy is the closest, with the pointy roses, but I bet you never even noticed that both had matching roses until I mentioned it.
