I completed fe4 a while ago, it was fun and I'd welcome a remake, but honestly the people begging for it should just emulate the orignal at this point, its got a complete fan translation and isn't SO old that it's clunky to play and the cast have some character thanks to the conversation system, theres not a ton of characterization like in later games with supports but its more than the average unit got in fe1-3. playing mystery of the emblem at the moment, almost finished book 1. TLDR any new fe stuff would be welcome and play Fe4

Fire Emblem is a game about army building (except the DLC, when they give you custom units, then it's about problem solving). If you wanna check builds and ask for recommendations outside of the game, and you don't mind if you screw up half of your units, Maddening is good to test your actual tactics play. Hard is really too damn easy if you are a seasoned SRPG player. Also, there will always be decent replacements for units you do screw up. If you rather learn the game systems on the first playthrough so you can do your own army building on the second playthrough, then Hard first, Maddening second.

Alear has mediocre combat unless you heavily invest into it, but gets really good support through a 90% chance to nullify damage on adjacent allies with the Lucina ring, Rally Spectrum with the Byleth ring, and a lot of different ways to fuck with the terrain with the Corrin ring (although you'll generally be spammimg Flame Vein because it slows enemies down massively over a pretty wide area). Alear's personal also gives adjacent allies +3 damage, which is very important in the early game and can still be useful lategame.
Alear's most powerful support options tend to give no XP. So if you just use Alear that way you'll end up underleveled, and then you'll definitely be failing to kill stuff.

Yes you have to gang up on enemies. Maddening in early game is all about looking for ways for the guy with the first attack to minimise retaliation damage, this includes breaking, tanking (Louis, Vander early), range (melee bow enemies, shoot melee enemies), dodge (early game only reliable via Marth, late game, your speedy units become very good at dodging), engage attacks since you cannot counter engage attacks.

One final point is that full hp martial artists can guard adjacent allies, so for the chapter 5 boss, you can do something like put etie on his max range, so he will attack from 2 range, which etie can counter with bow (and etie hits hard but she cannot take a hit), and you can guard etie. Although etie is slow so check if you'll be doubled.

Alear is like PoR ike tier Id say. They're not bad. There's also the way the game is balanced that makes investing in them make sense; you get a Percival for every single goddamn class archetype, so the ideal strategy is to bunch up your early game exp into a few select units and then enjoy the Percivals filling in the gaps in your roster as the game progresses. Naturally your Lord, who isn't even bad (especially if you class change them) makes for a great candidate to be one of the few you feed, especially due to making good use of Mercurius.

Even with nerfed might, people still often prefer Killers to Silvers. Extra crit is essential for some builds, works well on high str characters and can be used to rig the dice roll in your favour.
